In 2010-11 season AZ finished in fourth place in the Eredivise under new manager Gertjan Verbeek, thus securing the Europa League for the following season too. That year, in their Europa League group, they failed to get past the group stage, finishing third.
The team's best scorer that year was Kolbeinn Sigthórsson with 15 goals in Eredivise and 3 in the Europa League.
